KANSAS CITY MAYOR ON FUTURE OF KCMO SCHOOL DISTRICT
Kansas City Mayor Sly James says he would like a say on the future of the Kansas City MO School Districit. He wants a mayoral leadership board to run school district operations and that he'd be the primary source of accountability to the community. The board would be run by three professionals appointed by the mayor. Missouri education officials presented their plan for the district to the state's Board of Education during a meeting yesterday and will continue discussions today.
90 ANIMALS RESCUED FROM UNFIT FACILITY
The Missouri Department of Agriculture said the Humane Society of Missouri removed about 90 animals from a southwest Missouri unlicensed facility that was operating as an animal rescue. The facility had inadequate housing, unsanitary conditions and lack of food. The animals included 40 dogs, along with birds, cats, rabbits, ferrets and chinchillas. The animals will now be placed with licensed shelters and rescues in Missouri. The agriculture department says that since January 2009, it has helped remove more than 5,400 dogs from substandard conditions.
HONDA RECALLS MORE VEHICLES
Honda has announced that they are expanding on a previously announced recall of certain models of Honda and Acura vehicles that were made between 2001 and 2003. The original announcement was to replace the driver's airbag inflator, saying that the inflators may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality. But, now Honda is saying that about 640 affected driver's airbag service parts were sold for installation in cars for collision repair or other vehicle service, so now will also inspect an additional approximately 603,000 vehicles and replace those parts as necessary.
This recall now includes certain 2001 and 2002 Accord, 2001 to 2003 Civic, 2001 to 2003 Odyssey, 2002 and 2003 CR-V, 2003 Pilot, 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 2003 Acura 3.2 CL vehicles.
In addition to contacting customers by mail, in late December, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going on-line or calling. Honda owners can go to www.recalls.honda.com or call (800) 999-1009 and select option 4; Acura owners can go to www.recalls.acura.com or call (800) 382-2238 and select option 4.
