(Da Hardwood) – Both college basketball squads from Kansas survived a wild day of upsets in the N-C-A-A tournament.
Kansas State beat the University of North Texas by twenty points. K-U had little trouble with Lehigh University, winning by sixteen.
Mizzou takes on Clemson in their first-round game this afternoon.
(Kansas City) – Jackson County’s government is now facing a class-action lawsuit over asbestos in the Courthouse.
A lawsuit on behalf of a former courthouse employee has also been filed. Nancy Lopez worked there from 1975 to 2007 and has now been diagnosed with mesothelioma. The lawsuits allege that remodeling work done on the building in the 1980’s exposed employees to the asbestos.
(Kansas City) – Some people who are unhappy with the Kansas City School Board’s decision to close about half the schools wants people to be part of an unusual protest.
In order to keep their kids in the current schools, they are calling for the students to not go to school – at least for a day. Specifically, the call is for teachers, employees and students to not show up at school on April Fifth.
Instead of being in class, the protest organizers want the students to join the others at a rally against the decision. The downsizing is expected to save the District about fifty-million dollars.
(Kansas City) – Kansas City police are trying to figure out why a man ran from officers and then made a threatening gesture towards them, resulting in his being shot to death.
It happened in Riverside Thursday afternoon. Officers were called to a home after a disturbance was reported. The man ran into some nearby woods and made what police say was an aggressive move toward officers.
That’s when the shots were fired. The man’s name had not been released.
(Blue Springs, MO) – Heartland Church in Blue Springs is holding a special concert tonight to help their youth group help others.
The youth are planning a trip to Memphis to help repair homes in an economically-troubled area. Tonight, several Christian bands will perform at the church.
Admission is only seven dollars – five if you wear something green. It all starts at six-thirty.
