About Care-a-thon
What is Care-a-thon?
You may wonder…"what is Care-a-thon?" Calvary 88.5 KLJC is a listener-supported radio station. Our purpose is to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the heart of America and the world. We are able to remain on the air because of God's faithfulness and the generosity of His people. Twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall, we come to you, our listening family, and ask that you would financially partner with us in ministry. It is at this time that we raise the budget to operate for another six months. You may give a one-time gift or a monthly gift. You may also give immediately (with a bank or credit card) or you may choose to make a faith promise.
What is a faith promise?
A faith promise is a promise you make to God and Calvary 88.5. It's possible that you might want to donate 20 dollars a month, but right now, you don't have 120 dollars to give. Therefore, a faith promise means several things:
· You have prayed about giving a gift to the station
· God is leading you to pledge a certain amount
· You are believing that God will provide that amount so you can send it in to the station sometime within the next six months
What is the Care-a-thon goal?
The Calvary 88.5 budget is 350,000 every six months. In the past, we have brought to you that entire figure as the Care-a-thon goal. This has been a little confusing in the past and even a little disconcerting as there have been times when we have not met the goal.
We have found, however, that additional financial gifts for the station continue to come in during the next six months as faithful friends and new listeners continue to send in support to help us reach the budget. Therefore, in faith, we believe that if we can meet the 250,000 six-month goal then God will provide the rest as the year progresses.
How do I give?
There are several ways to give:
- You can simply call (816) 318-4242 and talk to one of our Care-a-thon volunteers. They will take some basic information over the phone about your pledge/faith promise so that we can send you some information in the mail.
- You can give on-line on our secure site. There is a link at the bottom of this page.
What happens after I give a gift or make a faith promise?
We will send you an acknowledgement with a return envelope in the mail. If the information is not correct, please let us know by calling (816) 331-8700. Each time you give you will receive a confirmation from us and, if you have pledged on a monthly basis, an additional envelope.
Why is Care-a-thon so important?
Calvary 88-5 is a listener supported station. Legally, we cannot advertise. Although we do have a few businesses that underwrite with the station (and we acknowledge them with a thank you), our primary means of support is through our listening friends. We do not receive any government funds or any outside sourcing. We are not owned by a large corporation or joined to a radio network. We live by faith—just like you. Our budget is extremely meager and we are fiscally responsible to honor the Lord with each gift. Care-a-thon is an extremely crucial time for the operation of Calvary 88.5. We appreciate your prayer and partnership.
The impact of Calvary 88.5
God has given us a unique gift—the ability to share the gospel over invisible airwaves. That means we reach people where they are. Through the power of radio, God can reach people in places that you and I cannot physically go. Many of our listeners would say that they are Christians. We also have a number of listeners who are not—but they are seeking. Consider the following testimonies:
"I live in a nursing home. KLJC keeps me company so that I am not lonely…"
"…I feel that I get overwhelmed at times, but your music helps me find strength each day and reminds me that God is there. I do not know what I would do without your radio station"
"…although I am in prison, God has changed my life and I am a new man. I am learning so much from your radio station…"
"I drive a truck for a living….I don’t really believe in God, but I do enjoy the music that you play. Keep up the great work!"
God is using Calvary 88-5 to reach people right where they are. The staff at the station has the unique blessing of reading the letters that come in and talking to people on the phone. But, we realize that it’s all because of your partnership and commitment to giving that allows us to minister to people that are hurting and to reaching the lost. The apostle Paul put it this way, "The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. For we are God's fellow workers" (1 Cor. 3:8-9).
Thanks again for your prayerful consideration to giving a generous gift to Care-a-thon. One day, when we all gather around on that heavenly shore, we will see and celebrate the wonderful harvest.
