What's Underwriting?
Underwriting allows businesses to support the mission of Calvary 88.5 while reaching a highly desirable audience with a radio announcement. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates the language in Underwriting Announcements (UWA's).
What's Allowed
- Credits less than 15 seconds.
- Credits read live by Calvary 88.5 staff.
- Factual information about the underwriter, including location, product name and description of services.
- Credits containing a phone number or Web site address.
- Event dates and locations.
- Well-established slogan or corporate positioning statement.
- Preamble, "Local Underwriting is provided by", is included in the :15 credit.
What's Not Allowed
- Comparative statements (e.g., the best, bigger, faster)
- Qualitative statements involving subjective evaluation of quality (e.g., fine, great, rich, superb)
- Price information (including "free")
- Call-to-action statements directing the audience to: call, visit, try, compare, etc.
- Inducement-to-buy statements directing the audience to purchase a product (e.g., free trial period, 2-for-1)
- First or second pronouns (e.g., I, me, you)
What's It cost?
Underwriting Announcements are surprisingly affordable. Even the smallest non-profit organization can easily afford to purchase announcements on Calvary 88.5 to promote their next special event, or more importantly to raise awareness of its mission.
